Steps to take after a head injury in Maryland

On Behalf of | Apr 5, 2022 | Personal Injury

If you or someone you know has suffered a head injury, it is important to know what to do. Many people don’t realize how serious head injuries can be, and they often make serious errors in judgment that could be deadly.

Call 911 immediately

If you or someone you know has suffered a head injury, call 911 immediately. Even if the person seems fine, it is important to get them checked out by a doctor. Some injuries may not seem serious, but can actually be very dangerous.

For instance, a person may look fine after what may seem like a minor head scratch, but later develop a fatal brain bleed. If you are unable to call 911 yourself, ask someone else to do it for you.

Do not move the person

If the person has suffered a head injury, do not move them. This can cause more damage to the brain. For instance, if they have a skull fracture, moving them can cause the bone to pierce through the brain. If you must move the person, do so very carefully.

Call the police if it’s a road accident

If the person has been injured in a road accident, call the police. They will need to document the scene and collect evidence. This may include taking photographs and gathering witness statements. This is important for ensuring that the person responsible for the accident is held accountable and that the victim receives the compensation they deserve.

These are just a few of the things you should do after a head injury. Just remember that if you suffer a head injury due to someone else’s negligence, you may be able to recover damages. This includes compensation for your medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.
